PAST WORK:
Emily Shipp is a creative campaigns and marketing consultant. She works for startups, growing businesses and non-profits and specialises cause-related and social impact initiatives.
Social impact
Emily gained her grounding in social change campaigns at Shelter, leading digital media strategy for the Homes for London campaign which succeeded in persuading Boris Johnson, the then-elected Mayor, to establish a new housing body. Thereafter she led a major digital campaign raising public awareness of Shelter’s housing advice to its highest recorded level.
Leadership and team development
Leading diverse and multidisciplinary teams has given Emily the opportunity to motivate and inspire others. At publishing startup Unbound, she grew the marketing team from scratch to four full time employees and three contractors, recruiting two key team members who are still working for the company today. Under her leadership the marketing team succeeded in increasing new users signups by 127% and mailing list revenue by 134% year-on-year.
Startups and entrepreneurship
Since 2016 Emily has been advising startups and social enterprises on campaigns and marketing strategies. In the last few years she has taken on new challenges, including mentoring early-stage startups with Google Launchpad, joining the board of social enterprise The Restart Project and launching a publication on the intersection of politics and technology for The Fourth Group. Most recently she has been working with startups in Berlin, including devising a new marketing strategy for a fintech startup (currently pre-launch).
Emily graduated from Durham University with Joint Hons Psychology & Philosophy (BSc) and completed a Diploma in Journalism at the London School of Journalism. She trained in Creative Leadership at the BBC Academy.
Living in San Francisco, Barcelona and London, Emily has enjoyed learning from new working environments. Before working in marketing and communications she spent three years as an Assistant Psychologist and maintains a keen interest in interpersonal dynamics and workplace culture. Emily is interested in the future of work and the journeys we take to find purposeful work.
Emily lives in Berlin and is available for contract and consulting projects.
